Solrmatic – Automatic Solar Cooking

{“form_type”:”exhibit”,”maker_faire”:”2014_bayarea”,”uid”:”7b77c8c865d54979b7e6e3e8fe8dc7a4″,”tags”:”beaglebone, microcontrollers, solar”,”cats”:”food, raspberry-pi”,”project_name”:”Solrmatic – Automatic Solar Cooking”,”private_description”:”I built a solar cooker rotator powered by raspberry pi for my girlfriend. It turns towards and away from the sun for temperature control via a stepper motor with bike chain. The solar oven is something you put on top. Solar cooking is usually done with very imprecise temperature control and duration limiting what types of food can be cooked without a lot of hassle. Current examples include beans and crock pot type dishes. You can cook other things, but with a temperature probe and a lot of checking. rnI automated the temperature probe and the rotation. You have four knobs for oven temp, max food temp, end time and duration. A typical scenario is that you want to eat a roast at 6PM and you think that the roast will take 1.5 hours to cook, not to exceed 130 degrees for medium rare. Put your roast in with rnoven temp at 200, rnfood temp 130 degrees rnend time is 6PM rnduration 1 hour 50 minutes. rnThe roast will start cooking at 4:10 at 200 degrees and stop when 130 degrees is reached. There is also temperature posting to the web so you can check the progress of your food and see if it\’s done. I\’ll likely put in text messaging to let you know \’\'soup\’s on\’\’ or something similar. I just made it, but in February with little sun, we already cooked three pounds of turkey perfectly and did apple dehydration which would be tricky since you don\’t want to cook the apples, just dehydrate them at 135 degrees or so. It was able to hold the temperature within 10 degrees.”,”public_description”:”The solrmatic takes the guesswork out of solar cooking. Put your own solar cooker on the rotator, put the temperature probes in the oven and food, select your presets and let the solrmatic do the rest. Enjoy perfect food!”,”project_photo”:”http://makerfaire.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/solrmatic-3.jpg”,”project_photo_thumb”:”http://makerfaire.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/solrmatic-3-500×375.jpg”,”project_website”:”www.solrmatic.com”,”project_video”:”",”food”:”No”,”food_details”:”",”org_type”:”None of the above”,”large_non_profit”:”",”sales”:”No”,”sales_details”:”",”crowdsource_funding”:”No”,”cf_details”:”I put no since I do not plan to solicit at Maker Faire.
