(It uses 4 strands of 50 LEDs, each controlled with the SM16716 chipset.) rnrnThe LED strands are controlled directly by an Arduino Uno, which implements basic functions for writing to the LED grid, as well as a few more complex functions such as color gradients and (naturally) Conway\’s Game of Life.rnrnThe Arduino is controlled by a Raspberry Pi via SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface). The Rasbperry Pi allows us to implement more complex functions, such as text scrolling, with bitmaps generated by the FreeType library. It also allows use to receive instructions via OSC (Open Sound Control).rnrnThe Raspberry Pi can be controlled by an iPad using OSC over ethernet. We can draw directly on the LED grid using the iPad.
