In Skatehack, we demonstrate how skateboarding and hacking share similar concepts and can be combined in a fun and exciting way using open source technologies. rnrnThe Augmented Ramp consists of small kicker skateboard ramp embedded with piezo electric sensors which respond to vibration. As the skateboarder interacts with the ramp, vibrations are converted into musical triggers resulting in a sonified skate experience.rnAnyone can customize their own sounds by simply recording new ones with their mobile devices or choosing a pre-selected bank of sounds and uploading on the ramp. rnrnThe Augmented Ramp demonstrates how urban environments can be hacked, modified and re-appropirated and how kids can transform their world into a platform of possibilities!rnrnPresenting Skatehack at the Maker Faire will attract kids, stimulate their general interest in technology, physical and expand their curiosity and imagination.rnrnrnrnOur project consists of open-source sensor toolkits and customized skate shields built with the Rasberry Pi.rnrnrnWe wish to demo the Augmented Ramp, our customized sensor toolkits and knowledge and information about hacking, skateboarding and open source technologies. A small indoor or outdoor interactive demonstration where an audience of all ages can interact with the the Augmented ramp, customized their own sounds, and participate in a fun and exciting way! rn”,”public_description”:”Skateboarders modify city spaces much like a hacker who modifies code in a computer program.
